The First Steps

The Wall!

The wall and bathroom door, after coming up with "A Plan",
we talked the customer into replacing the paneled door with a flat door,
so it would be easier to paint a detailed part of the mural on it.

We spent almost two complete days reserching.
We always have a general idea after the first meeting,
and gather up as much as we can find on the subject of the mural.
Then we like to really brainstorm the final stages of "The Plan" on the job site.
We always have extra ideas swingin in the breeze if we feel something needs to be added.
Our murals are always a work in progress and things pop up all the time.

We decided to start with a hut, (we had to figure out how to use the door),
with a porch floor on the side.
A simple colored wash, kind of gave it a mud-hut look.

The main picture of the Mural would be painted outside the porch
so the perspective on the floor and roof had to be right.
The ole "Tack on a String"...sometimes the most primitive tools are the foundations for the project.

We wanted some kind of thatched roof to also add a neat texture and look,
also by putting in a porch floor and roof, a lot of depth would be added to the mural.
Here the sky background is being painted and you can start to see a mural coming to life.
